Gold for Giovanni Cernogoraz (Crotia) at Mens Trap Final; Massimo Fabbrizi (Italy) settles with silver
In a very competitive competition cliffhanger which was on a three way tie with just 4 shots to go and two way tie till last shot, results could only be decided in shoot offs. We had double Shoot offs one for gold and silver and another shoot up for the bronze position.
Giovanni Cernogoraz of Croatia with 24 out of 25 in finals tied with Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy who scored 23 out of 25 both at the total of 146. They had a tough shoot off with no one ready to lose the medal but finally as they say someone had to emerge as a winner and it was Croatian Giovanni in the end as Fabbrizi missed his sixth shot.
During the face-off, both the men had set eyes on the Gold. Fabbrizi (Italy) shooting first in the play out, missed out on 6th shot; and Giovanni Cernogoraz (Crotia) who never ever mises a shot, claimed his rightful gold.
Earlier, in Bronze medal shoot offs – Aldeehani Fehaid of Kumait proved to be better off Michael Diamond, who missed his fourth shot on clay. Michael Diamond from Australia proved his dominance in the qualifiers of Trap event. Diamond got into finals with the perfect score of 75 on day 1 and another perfect 50 on day 2 still ended up on 4th position only, this means he missed first and all his 5 shots in finals out of total 20 he shot. Diamond shot 125 out of 125 in qualifiers, He equaled his own World record while doing this. Hard Luck we can say.
While in qualifiers 34 shooters participated and top six were moved to next level.
Match ended just in time as rain started to drizzle down lightly, which might have otherwise pushed the game. What a perfect ending to the last of shooting events in Olympics 2012.
Australia’s Diamond Couldn’t got medal in men’s Trap Shooting even after perfect score and world record in qualifiers. Giovanni from Croatia emerged as a winner in a cliffhanger.
